Day 11 — Recovery Day 10 | Monday, August 10, 2026
“Hello, iKnee people! How are you? It’s Eric Hansen, calling you live from the iKnee Recovery Desk. Just want to let you know it’s Monday, August 10th. That’s right, I’m ten days out of surgery.
I’m feeling pretty good, the leg’s feeling pretty good. Had a nice visit today with Clint, our physical therapist extraordinaire. We went through quite a few exercises, working on the flexibility of the knee.
Actually, I should say it’s not the knee itself, the knee is very flexible. It’s the flexibility of my upper leg that’s the real project. The question is how flexible I can get that leg over the next six weeks, and the most important movement, above all else, is extension.
I’m floating between -12 and -10 right now, and I want to get down to zero. For reference, before surgery I started at -30, with flexion in the high 90s, so about a 70-degree range of motion total, which is pretty rough.
Right now my flexion is at 85 and my extension is at -12, so we need to get that extension down to zero — we’re working on it. The flexion, I think, will just come naturally as the quadriceps stretches out and keeps moving.
Extension, though, is something I’ve never really had my whole career and my whole life. I was always the least flexible athlete on the field, for whatever reason. I always figured I’d just stretch it out as I warmed up or played, but I’ve never had much flexibility in my hamstring. So that’s what I need to work on, and it’s going to be my daily focus: those heel stretches, propping my leg up on the heel so the middle of the knee slowly bends, and I feel the pain right where the gastrocnemius muscle inserts into the back of the knee, above the calf.
That’s where the pain hits, and it’s a sweet pain — a beautiful pain, honestly. The kind that gives you a knot right in the middle of your stomach. That’s the kind of pain we’re talking about. So that’s my focus: getting my extension zeroed out.
Great day with Clint, great day with Maryum too. I went over to her place for IVs. She put in the usual mix, plus peptides this time, and even added a couple of stem cells to the IV, so we’ll see how that goes.
Pretty decent night’s sleep except for some intense sweating. I woke up pretty sweaty, which I’m told is just my liver working overtime to process everything moving through my system. Hoping tonight goes a bit smoother with the latest IV in.
Tomorrow, Tuesday the 11th, I get to see Dr. Woodson. I am heading to his clinic for a 2 o’clock appointment, and I’m excited for that. Plan is to get up the stairs, get a great night’s sleep, wake up and have morning coffee with my wife, Shannan (the “Shay Monster”), as she is called in the “Biz” — then head into the office for a few hours before heading over to see Woodson. That’s the plan for tomorrow. I’ll check in and let you know how it goes.
Have a great night. Talk to you soon, bye-bye.”
