iKnee Recovery Journal (Day 12) – Eric Hansen

day 12 1

 Day 12 — Recovery Day 11 | Tuesday August 11, 2026

“Hello there, it’s Tuesday the 11th, day 11 after surgery for the iKnee. Today was a very interesting day. I went to see Dr. Chris Woodson for my post-op visit, and he got a look at my knee, my range of motion, and everything else we’re measuring.

He wasn’t quite happy with the range of motion yet. For context, I was probably the toughest candidate to take on the iKnee. I had waited 15 years for a knee replacement and had horrible range of motion going in, starting at -30 and getting up to maybe 90, so about 65 to 70 degrees total, which is rough.

Clint and I have been working hard on this and getting good measurements, but I honestly hadn’t done much stretching right before seeing Dr. Woodson. I wanted him to see it “au naturel,” more or less. Therefore, we did some movement and he took some measurements.

He didn’t love the way the skin looked. It was a little red and a little tight. That could be from icing it too much, so he asked me to stop icing the medial side, the inside part of the knee. I can still ice the outside edge and underneath.

Or it could be cellulitis, which is a minor skin inflammation and infection that antibiotics take care of, so he prescribed Keflex just to be safe. He also decided to aspirate some of the fluid from my knee, pulled five syringes’ worth (three big ones and two smaller ones) with a pretty serious-looking needle. About 100cc’s total. He sent it off to the lab for testing.

I actually had cellulitis once before, when I broke my leg six months ago. As that wound was healing, a couple of small spots near the shin and ankle didn’t heal quite right, or hadn’t healed yet, I should say — that area takes longer because the skin’s thin and circulation isn’t great down there. Keflex cleared it up within a day back then. It’s typically a 7-to-14-day course, four times a day, and I felt the difference after just a few pills.

So I started the Keflex for my knee too. There’s a small incision on the inside where they placed the arthroscopy tube, plus the main incision, and that inner area has been a bit more red and tender — sort of prickly to the touch. I started the antibiotics and have already noticed a difference. I’m taking it every six hours through the night, three pills in so far, and hoping that takes care of it.

I’m in the middle of my stretches right now, and tomorrow I’ve got Clint coming at noon along with a few other appointments.

Another exciting moment for me was when I went into the office today! That was really fun. Got to see some of the team, sat in on a board meeting, and was there for a couple of hours. That’s actually what I did before heading to the Woodson appointment, which is why I didn’t get my stretches in beforehand.

It was a warm welcome, everyone’s super cool. It was so good to see people, but it’s a totally different mode being back there. Your knee is ROCKIN’ even while you’re trying to focus on calls with investors and business. Finding somewhere to prop the leg up took some creativity. I ended up pulling a couple of drawers out to rest it on. I’ll need to figure out how to keep the physical therapy going once I’m back in the office more regularly, so I’ll keep thinking that through.

That’s it for today. Have a great night, everybody! I’ll call you back tomorrow and let you know how it goes after I see Clint. Also getting a haircut tomorrow, which I’m excited about. We’ll go from there. Catch you later, bye for now.”
