Recovery Day 18

Day 18 — Recovery Day 17 | Monday, August 17, 2026

“Good evening, iKnee people. It is Monday, August 17, and I just want to check in with you and tell you about the goings on of the day. I want to let you know it was a great day!!

Today started with waking up and coming down the stairs, and for whatever reason in the mornings, throbbing takes place. Maybe everything’s waking up and settling in. It’s almost like the most pain happens in the morning when the throbbing opens up, but then through the course of the day, things settle down and things are good.

So, this morning, there was a little throbbing, so I took a few pain meds. Clint came over. Saturday and Sunday, as I mentioned, were kind of rest days for me. I did a lot of edema management, a lot of swelling management. I raised my leg for elevation and didn’t do any icing. Pain came down and the swelling came down, so it felt good. Good Saturday and Sunday doing that.

Monday, Clint shows up and I said, “Hey, Clint, we have some work to do!!” Since I haven’t really done a lot of work over the weekend, so we started working. We got to a flexion of 90, which is a great gain; I was very happy with that. Then we did a lot of extension work. We did a lot of walking and took some pics. Things look good, and I was excited for today to happen because I knew I was going to see Dr. Woodson.

I went to see Dr. Woodson at 2 o’clock, so after I got done with Clint, I did some work from home and elevated the leg again.

I go see Dr. Woodson in the office, and he was very, very happy with the leg and how it looked with the swelling being down. He liked how I could straighten it. It looked good. He saw a 90-degree bend as well. He took a little video and sent it to Dr. Grotz. It was really fun, and I’m very happy.

He also read me the lab reports. Last week, when I was there, he drew some fluid out of the knee and sent the samples away for labs. He wrote a script for an antibiotic because he thought I was getting a little cellulitis, or he thought it was ice burn because I was icing quite a bit. He drew the fluid then called me right away and said one of the markers showed no infection, which is great progress. But we would get the other markers by today when I come back in.

So, I came in and he read the other two lab biomarkers. Everything was negative with no infection and no rejection. Everything is looking good. He liked my motion. He took me off the antibiotic. He said, “You know what? You didn’t have an infection. You had ice burn. You were just over-icing.”

I said, “Okay, so that’s good.” So, I got off the antibiotic. He also said I can titrate off or not take the Journavx anymore. He also said to use Percocet as needed and use Journavx as needed. I’ll stay on the aspirin and things like that, but he was very happy with the results.

He then said, “I’m going to prescribe you a steroid, Prednisone, which will help reduce the swelling even more to get it down and reduce that swelling.”

Another measurement that I did starting today is the circumference of my knee. There are three readings: there is upper knee in the quad area, the lower knee by the calf, and there’s right in the middle of the joint. We want to get those readings and measure those throughout the next few weeks.

So, my upper reading, where my quad is right above the knee is 50 centimeters. The centerline over the joint of the femur and the tibia is 46 centimeters. And lower, which is right where the calf starts is 37.5 centimeters. I will start giving you those numbers as well as my flexion and extension.

Another thing he did is giving me an order for a Dyna Splint. Actually, two Dyna Splints. A Dyna Splint is a splint that you put on your knee, and you can crank it to give you extension. There’s an extension splint and there’s a flexion splint. So, this is going to help me in my static stretches to try to get more range of motion.

Another thing he ordered for me is a CPM machine (Continuous Passive Motion). It’s going to keep moving my knee back and forth constantly. I put my leg in this box, and it just moves my leg back and forth as I’m sitting there. So that’s going to give it constant passive motion.

So, I got a few new things coming, which is steroids. I first said, “Hey, man,” I told Shannan, “I’m going to start working out and get all jacked up again! Steroids for the inflammation in my knee!” I got two Dyna Splints, one for extension and one for flexion, and then I got a Continuous Passive Motion machine.

But, I’m pretty jacked up today because after the weekend rest I got great results with Clint, and then I had a great visit with Dr. Woodson. He seemed well pleased, so it was a lot of fun. I’m very excited. So, I’ll get upstairs tonight and have a good night’s sleep.

I’ll get back down here tomorrow morning, and we’ll do it all over again. I see Clint tomorrow at about 10:30, and then I plan on going to the office, spend a few hours, and then get home. Anyway, you guys have a great rest of your evening. Talk to you soon. Bye-bye.”
