Day 7 — Recovery Day 6 | Thursday, August 6, 2026

“Hello, welcome back to the iKnee Recovery Journal While I am writing this it is Thursday, August 6th. We’re six days out of surgery, and it was a pretty nice day today. The pain is there, the leg swelling is there, but overall, everything is getting better. I did my exercises and my walks, and I’m still taking the meds.

I stopped taking the Percocet at noon, so we’ll see how tonight goes. It usually creeps back at night, in bed, whenever I’ve tried to stop before.

I saw the video of my surgery today. Maybe I shouldn’t have, but I did. It was raw footage from the overhead camera on the surgical lights, showing the whole procedure from that angle. Dr. Woodson was wearing one or two GoPro’s as well, and there were a couple of other cameras in the room, so we’ve got several different angles of the whole thing.

Getting to see all the commentary and the different angles of how everything was done was a very interesting case. Dr. Woodson did an amazing job, flowing from one portion of the procedure to the next. It was fascinating watching him opening me up to get access, trimmed the knee from the elements around the knee, put in the anchors and in the video he mentions that the knee fit together perfectly, “like a glove”.

Now I understand why my quad is so sore, and I got to see how everything was closed up afterward, I saw the stitching that took place. Just saw all the things that need to take place with the osteotomes, the rongeurs, the pituitaries, the lavage when they wash and clean you out and suck everything up At one point, watching some of the more involved parts of the procedure, I actually caught myself telling the TV, “Hey! Be careful, that’s my knee!” Other moments, it genuinely felt like I was just watching someone else’s knee on screen.

Either way, I’m really excited to see what Tony puts together with this documentary. Tomorrow I’ve got physical therapy at the house at 10:30 with Clint, and Tony’s going to come by and film it, so we’ll get some footage of what an actual therapy session looks like.

Other than that, I’ve been catching up with folks calling in from work, talking with my partner, and talking with some of the kids. It’s been strange having to sit still for so long and just let the process happen, but I can see the gains. Every time the tissue relaxes and releases, I get a little more of that heel stretch toward full extension, which I think is going to be the hardest piece of this to get back.

The flexion side seems to keep giving me gains every day, so I’m curious to see what tomorrow brings. That’s it for now… bedtime’s coming, which means it’s time for the trip up the stairs, and then I’ll figure out whether I need meds tonight or can wait until morning. Have a good night, everybody. I’ll talk to you again tomorrow. Bye-bye.”
